About the Director
Elizabeth A. Mannix is the Robert S. Harrison Director of the Institute for the Social Sciences and Ann Whitney Olin Professor of Management. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (1989) in Social and Organizational Psychology. Prior to joining the faculty at Cornell, she was a faculty member at Columbia Business School and at the University of Chicago. She was also a visiting professor in the MBA program at the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. She has taught executives in Singapore and Malaysia as well. Professor Mannix's research and teaching activities include: power & influence, negotiation & conflict, organizational change, diversity, and effective team performance. Her teaching ability has been acknowledged as a member of the teaching “honor role” in the MBA classroom. She is also the winner of the Johnson School ’s inaugural Executive MBA Globe teaching award.
Professor Mannix’s recent research focuses on knowledge sharing in virtual teams and the effectiveness of different influence strategies in diverse teams. Her recent work includes a monograph covering the last 50 years on the multi-faceted effects of diversity in organizational teams. Professor Mannix is the winner of two grants from the Center for International Business Education and Research to study cross-cultural negotiation practices. Her research has appeared in numerous journals and edited volumes. She is the co-editor of the book series, Research on Managing Groups and Teams, now in its 9 th volume. Professor Mannix has been an Associate Editor of the Academy of Management Review (2002-2005), and currently serves on the editorial board of Administrative Science Quarterly. Her consulting and executive education reaches major corporations in the United States as well as abroad on topics such as leadership, organizational change, and the effective use of power and influence.
