Jeffrey Rachlinski is Professor of Law at Cornell University Law School, where he teaches courses on civil procedure, torts, environmental law, administrative law, business organizations, and social & cognitive psychology for lawyers. He has a J.D. and Ph.D. (Psychology) from Stanford University. He has authored dozens of articles on the application of psychology and behavioral economic principles to law and legal institutions. This work has spanned a wide range of areas of law, from torts and contracts to environmental law and securities regulation. His work has emphasized both how the psychology of judgment and choice can be used to assess legal reforms and how psychological principles track the way law develops. His most recent work involves the application of the psychology of judgment and choice to trial judges. He is a founding co-editor of the Journal of Empirical Legal Studies and serves on the Board of Directors of the Society for Empirical Legal Studies.
