In this kickoff lecture, Michael Macy explained that we know far more about individuals and populations than we do about social interactions, which are fleeting, hard to observe, and tedious to record. He added that all that is changing, thanks to the rapid growth of on-line networks, where social interactions leave a digital trace. One of the teams goals was to plan a series of events to foster multi-disciplinary exchanges and highlight new opportunities for research on social and information networks, including those in cyberspace as well as off-line. |
