ISS Faculty Fellow/Evolving Family Team 2004-7
Lindy Williams is an Associate Professor in Development Sociology, Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Asian Studies. Her research focuses on social change and the family in a number of contexts in Asia ( Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, and Taiwan). She also addresses issues pertaining to family demography and reproductive health in the United States. Gender and inter-generational relations, attitudes, and decision-making are central themes in her research. In the near term, her research will continue to concentrate on issues of social change and its impacts on families. One area of interest is on how changing circumstances affect the well-being of certain subgroups differently from others. In particular, how do girls fare compared to their brothers, and how do women fare compared to their husbands, partners, and other relatives.
